Senior Data and AI Engineer (Remote LATAM)

About the role

Abstra, a nearshore tech talent services company, is hiring a Senior Data and AI Engineer to work remotely from LATAM. You will work closely with architects, cloud engineers and clients to design and deliver modern data platforms that power analytics, machine learning and generative AI initiatives. The role is hands-on, focused on automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD, with working hours based on US Pacific Time and a minimum 6-hour overlap.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement data pipelines, platforms, lakes, warehouses and architectures with architects and customers.
• Deliver enterprise-level ML and GenAI solutions using IaC and CI/CD.
• Stay current on AWS (including certification) and on GenAI developments.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cloud engineers.
• Build and maintain reusable data products for future consulting engagements.

Required profile

• 5+ years in data engineering or AI/ML, and at least 1 year in the other domain.
• Experience writing SQL (stored procedures, CTEs).
• Significant programming experience with source control (Git, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket).
• Comfortable running technical conversations with customers and setting expectations.

Required skills

• A major cloud platform: AWS, Azure or GCP.
• IaC: Terraform, OpenTofu, CloudFormation.
• Data warehouses: Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery.
• NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB, Cassandra, Redis.
• Data streaming: Spark, Kafka, Kinesis.
• Preferred: ETL tools (Airflow, dbt, Glue, Fivetran), ML frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch), Docker/Kubernetes, and visualization tools (QuickSight, Tableau, Power BI).
