Senior Functional Quality Assurance Engineer

About the role

Abstra, a nearshore tech talent services company that sources Latin American tech talent for U.S. companies, is hiring a Senior Software Quality Analyst (Functional QA) to support the quality delivery of its product. The role is 100% remote, with working hours based on US Central or Eastern time, and suits someone passionate about all aspects of software development.

Key responsibilities

• Define testing strategies for complex initiatives and collaborate with developers and testers on an effective testing strategy
• Create and run functional, cross-browser, exploratory, security, regression, edge-case and integration tests
• Use TFS or Jira to create test scenarios, run tests and log defects against user stories and acceptance criteria
• Review testability of user stories and acceptance criteria, and share knowledge of business processes and databases with the team
• Provide documentation and support client User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
• Set up test data, support production implementations, and contribute to Agile ceremonies
• Research new tools and technologies and mentor others in quality assurance practices

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or a business-related field
• Business experience in the financial or retirement industry
• Strong hands-on quality assurance experience and advanced knowledge of manual testing techniques and tools
• Experience with Agile philosophy and frameworks
• Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Desire to learn automation scripting and debugging; able to lead and mentor others

Required skills

• Relational databases and SQL (CRUD operations and multi-table joins)
• Web services testing tools such as SoapUI, Boomerang and/or Swagger API endpoint testing
• Nice to have: mobile app testing, exposure to automation scripting and debugging, CAST certification
