Senior AI Innovation Engineer (GenAI, Remote LATAM)

About the role

Abstra, a nearshore tech talent services company, is hiring a Senior AI Innovation Engineer to join its Innovation team. You will partner with Marketing, Sales, PMO, GTM, Delivery and Operations to build solutions that use genAI to improve efficiency and reduce toil. It is a shipping role, not research, and the position is 100% remote in LATAM with working hours based on US Pacific Time (minimum 6-hour overlap).

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operate workflow automation: event-driven systems that remove manual work across commercial operations, delivery and managed services.
• Build production-grade genAI applications using LLMs, RAG architectures and agentic patterns.
• Develop internal platform capabilities: APIs, data pipelines and integrations connecting business systems.
• Create solution accelerators: reusable components and patterns that can be packaged and delivered to customers.
• Build observability and operational tooling: monitoring, alerting and reliability infrastructure.

Required profile

• Experience architecting and building complex, event-driven, data-oriented applications (Python or equivalent OOP language preferred; polyglot, with a functional background, strongly valued).
• Willingness to learn new programming languages and technologies as needed.
• Ability to design, deploy and evolve applications at scale with third-party dependencies (REST, GraphQL, event-driven patterns).
• Security-first mindset, treating security as a foundation rather than an afterthought.
• Good AWS working knowledge; training and support provided.

Required skills

• SQL and NoSQL databases, migrations, data analysis, synchronization flows and ETL.
• Writing and building testing frameworks (e2e, smoke, integration, unit); familiarity with genAI testing approaches is helpful.
