Senior VB.NET Software Engineer (C# - SQL) - Remote LATAM

About the role

Abstra, a nearshore tech talent services company, is looking for a Senior VB.NET Software Engineer with strong expertise in Microsoft technologies. The role maintains, enhances and supports enterprise applications built mainly with VB.NET and Windows Forms, while modernizing and extending legacy applications. It is 100% remote for LATAM candidates, with working hours based on US Central Time.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze software requirements and business needs to design and implement technical solutions.
• Develop, maintain and enhance enterprise applications with VB.NET and Windows Forms.
• Work with SQL databases to create, optimize and maintain queries, stored procedures and data integrations.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and resolve production defects in existing applications.
• Contribute to C# applications and services, and maintain integrations via REST APIs.
• Follow coding standards, source control practices and testing procedures; participate in Scrum ceremonies and code reviews.
• Help with technical documentation, testing and deployment, and share knowledge with the team.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 5 years of software development experience with VB.NET and the .NET Framework.
• Experience with legacy applications and modernizing codebases.
• Agile/Scrum experience and ability to write technical documentation.

Required skills

• Strong hands-on experience with VB.NET and Windows Forms.
• Microsoft SQL Server, including stored procedures, performance tuning and database design.
• Working knowledge of C# and RESTful APIs.
• Git, unit testing and debugging; CI/CD and cloud experience is a plus.
