Lead Accountant – Construction Finance

About the role

An established construction contractor in Antigua is expanding its in‑house finance function and needs a senior accountant to lead a team of 4‑5 staff. The role is hands‑on, full‑time and reports directly to the owner‑directors.

Key responsibilities

• Own the general ledger, month‑end and year‑end close, bank and balance‑sheet reconciliations, and preparation of management and statutory accounts.
• Run payroll for a large site‑based workforce using digital timesheet data, ensuring accurate hours, allowances and deductions.
• Manage accounts payable/receivable, cash‑flow forecasting, treasury, supplier terms and client collections.
• Support project cost control by tracking costs against budgets, valuations, retentions and margin reporting.
• Oversee procurement processes to ensure purchase orders, approvals and invoices are aligned.
• Handle tax, social security and other statutory filings; act as main contact for auditors, banks and advisers.
• Review and improve finance systems (currently QuickBooks) and implement controls, policies and reporting cycles.

Required profile

• Recognised accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or CPA).
• Senior finance experience in construction or contracting, preferably in the Caribbean.
• Hands‑on payroll experience for a sizeable hourly‑paid or site‑based workforce.
• Experience leading a small finance team and reporting directly to owners.
